Hans and Erna Pauly founded Blue Ribbon Packing Company in 1948. German immigrants who had the vision that hard work could help them build a nice business for their family, Blue Ribbon became a full service meat packing company. In addition to quality smoked sausage which was made from their old German recipes, it also included a slaughter facility and rendering company.
At Blue Ribbon our vision to promote and expand in South Texas led us to approach former Houston Oilers Head Coach, O.A. "Bum", Phillips to become Blue Ribbon's first spokesperson. Bum, who was a loyal Blue Ribbon customer, gladly accepted the invitation and Blue Ribbon became Bum’s favorite! With Bum on board, creative advertising and quality products, Blue Ribbon sausage and bacon products started its steady climb and reached its #1 ranking in the Houston Marketing area in 1995.
Blue Ribbon's popularity has continued to grow and now has approximately universal distribution in the Houston marketing area, is available statewide, and now has 38 different sausage and bacon products. Recently released is the new line of products called Texas Traditions which are five slow smoked fully cooked barbecue entrees.
